What does Aging-in-Place mean??
When I have a client who wants to “age in place” it means they would like to live in their home for as long as they can while remaining safe, comfortable, and independent regardless of ability level.
Home will remain home….a familiar environment, where family celebrations take place, friends, children and grandchildren come to visit.
In all my projects, when I’m able, I make doorways wider, showers curbless, introduce better lighting, and, though it may be premature for grab bars, the walls are strengthened so the grab bars will be safe when the time comes to install them. No telling when a teenager may be maneuvering with a cast from a ski or skateboard accident!!!
Most homes will require some modification to facilitate aging in place. These changes can be as minimal as adding grab bars, as extensive as creating an accessible bed and bath on the first floor or adding an elevator.
Always, my goal is to have the changes be beautiful as well as practical and cost effective. Call me if you’d like to explore some of your options.
